Prickly Ice Honolulu: Cactus Shaved Ice, Opening Fall 2027
Beachside snow in the birthplace of American shave ice.

Prickly Ice is bringing its cactus-shaped, hand-shaved snow to Honolulu in Fall 2027. Here's everything we can share so far.
Why Honolulu and shaved ice belong together
Hawaii didn't just adopt shave ice โ it perfected it. Japanese plantation workers brought kakigori to the islands more than a century ago, and it grew into the fine, rainbow-bright shave ice that's now practically the state dessert. Opening in Honolulu means holding ourselves to the highest bar in the country, in the one place where locals can tell fluffy snow from crunchy ice at a glance.
Honolulu runs warm and trade-wind breezy almost every single day, which is why a shave ice break isn't a treat here so much as a rhythm of daily life. From the murals of Kaka'ako to the surf breaks off Waikiki to the old-town charm of Kaimuki, there's always a warm afternoon that a cold, fruit-piled cactus can make better.
The neighborhoods we're scouting
We want to land somewhere you're already spending your warm afternoons. Right now we're looking hardest at Kaka'ako, Waikiki and Kaimuki โ and the final address will go to our email list before anyone else hears it.
Flavors born for Honolulu
Our Honolulu bowls lean into the island's own pantry โ guava and lychee grown for that perfumed island sweetness, a snow-cap of sweetened condensed milk, and the salty-sweet-sour magic of li hing mui dusted over the top. Ask for a scoop of vanilla hiding at the bottom, island-style, and you've got the full local experience.
What makes the Honolulu shop special
Our Hawaii flagship is styled as a bright beachside stand โ coconut bowls, tropical blooms, and slippers very much welcome. It's built to be the kind of place you swing by after the beach with sand still on your feet. Every bowl is fluffy hand-shaved snow, sculpted into a smiling little cactus and buried in fresh fruit โ prickly on the outside, sweet and soft inside.

Honolulu shaved ice: your questions
Is Prickly Ice open in Honolulu yet?
Not quite โ our Honolulu shop is planned to open in Fall 2027. Join the email list and you'll be the first to hear the exact date and address.
Where in Honolulu will Prickly Ice be?
We're scouting spots around Kaka'ako, Waikiki and Kaimuki. The final address will be announced to our email list first.
What's the difference between shave ice and Prickly Ice?
Traditional Hawaiian shave ice is fluffy snow with syrup and often ice cream at the bottom. Prickly Ice takes that same feather-light snow and sculpts it into an adorable cactus, then buries it in fresh fruit โ same island soul, a lot more personality.
Will you have classic island flavors like li hing and guava?
Absolutely. Guava, lychee, li hing mui and a snow-cap of condensed milk are all on the Honolulu menu we're dreaming up, alongside our signature cactus builds.
