Michigan summers are short, green and deeply treasured — locals chase every warm afternoon like it might be the last one, ideally with something cold in hand. But we didn't want a Detroit shaved ice shop that closes up when the lake-effect snow arrives.

So our Detroit spot, opening Winter 2027, is built as a plant-filled greenhouse café: a warm, humid, tropical room you can duck into in January and still get snow in a bowl. It's summer in there all year.

Michigan fruit meets tropical snow

The Midwest grows some of the best fruit in the country, and our Detroit menu leans right into it — Michigan cherries and strawberries at their peak, alongside creamy milk snow and chewy black-sugar boba.

It tastes like the best two weeks of a Michigan July, available all year long. Great-Lakes fruit, island-style snow.

Corktown, Midtown and Eastern Market

Detroit is a maker's city in the middle of a real comeback — historic Corktown, the cultural heart of Midtown, and the legendary weekend crowds at Eastern Market. It's a place that appreciates something built by hand, which is exactly how every Prickly Ice bowl is made, one cactus at a time.
